Albeit of the domestic variety, here's the latest (at least in the Boston area) related instance of the security-cum-thuggery enveloping reign of terror:
"An 18-year-old student at Milford High School was detained by immigration officials on Saturday morning while driving with teammates to a volleyball practice, according to school officials."
It’s fucking ridiculous. To be honest, by this stage I’d expected some kind of intervention from splinter groups within the military and the Secret Service.
Where are these true patriots when you need them?
Every day this administration remains in power, you’re looking at years to undo the damage.
Even if they were suddenly replaced tomorrow, you’re already at a point where it will take decades, lifetimes in some situations to fix the damage done.
Yup, a big, beautiful royal copulating, from His Majesticness, The Donald. Latest from today's newspaper, "It is not known what grounds prompted the teen’s detention but he is listed on an ICE website as being in custody. ICE officials have not released any information or responded to requests for comment."
Par for the course from the ""There has never been, ever before, an administration that’s been so open and transparent" Trump.
[From now on I will have to begin each comment I make to your latest entries with the preamble “Manyfold blessings upon your soul for somehow, magically making me laugh while conveying the utter horrors of what’s going on.” It’s the weekend now, come Monday morning I will call my lawyer for an appointment to include you in my will, the reading of which may well come about much sooner than I thought, given the encounters you have related here.]
I got some hint about these variously named “security personnel” some years ago when the actor Tim Robbins was on the “Democracy Now!” program, the topic at that pre-Oct. 7th time being “security” at the southern border. This is what he had to say:
“You know, when you empower people with ignorance and with this kind of paranoia about everyone coming into our country south of the border that must be trying to take something from us, it’s really, you know, denigrating not only to the individuals involved... but also to our country itself. It’s not what I think of when I think of us as a country that is welcoming.”
That was five years ago. Amazing the progress we’ve made in security since then. Is it "the past is prelude," or "preclude civil liberties and personal freedoms"?
Addendum: Neglected to add that bloodcurdling line from "Rosemary's Baby," "This is no dream, this is really happening!"
I’ll have to look that up; I haven’t seen much of Tim Robbins over the past few years, but I remember reading an interview with him probably about 20 years ago, and he sounded really interesting.
"Please, no dying; I can’t afford to lose readers."
Doing my best, but I figure it's likely to be either a "I'm a superstitious man, and if some unlucky accident should befall Michael - if he is to be shot in the head by a police officer, or be found hung dead in a jail cell... or if he should be struck by a bolt of lightning..." [The Godfather] kind of thing, or
“We haven’t quite decided yet whether he committed suicide or died trying to escape” [Casablanca].
The US isn't even the worst at this. UK and Australia have been doing it for years.
They need no suspicion. No warrant. They arrest you under "anti-terror" legislation, can hold you for 6 hours. During this time you have no right to remain silent, any attempt to remain silent in the opinion of the thugs is 5 years prison. You have no right to a lawyer, refusing to comment without a lawyer present gets you another cold 5 years prison. You must unlock your devices and if you refuse to or cannot then that's... you guessed it... another 5 years prison. At the end they get to steal all your property without cause or suspicion.
UK did all of this to Richard Medhurst and many others only recently. Most people comply for obvious reasons (5 years in a terror prison is no joke).
So I would say... don't get distracted. The media wants you to pretend all of this is a problem unique to the US. It's not. Don't get sucked in to divide and conquer strategies.
Maybe USA Tourism should redo the California tourism ad (voice over by Kim Kardashian) saying a cavity search maybe be included?

Thanks again, always appreciated.

I had to look it up myself, here's the Tim Robbins link https://www.democracynow.org/2020/1/23/tim_robbins_bernie_sanders_immigration_trump
🤣 Many thanks, I’ll watch it in the morning. It’s late here now!

Actually, you’re 100% correct. To be honest I should have addressed that.
Thanks for bringing it up.
